List of multiples by Joseph Beuys

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German artist Joseph Beuys (1921–1986) produced a total of 557 multiples (German: edition objects) from 1965 to 1986 .

background

Joseph Beuys saw the multiple, a manifestation of the art of the sixties, with its artistic, sociological and economic aspects as a suitable medium for his art. He has radically expanded the term and given it its own content: the multiple as a carrier of ideas. He saw in the multiple not only the object, but also a possibility to transport his ideas and at the same time to reach a larger group of people through the serial character.
