Şükrü Sina Gürel (born January 1, 1950 in Izmir ) is a Turkish academic, politician and former Foreign Minister of Turkey .

Gürel graduated from Bornova Anadolu Lisesi High School in İzmir and in 1971 the Faculty of Political Science in the field of international relations at Ankara University . Gürel received his doctorate in 1977. In 1982, Gürel worked in the editorial team of the Arayış ( search ) magazine, headed by Bülent Ecevit . At the same faculty he became a lecturer in 1984 and professor in 1990. In the parliamentary elections of 1995, Gürel was elected member of the İzmir Province in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for the Democratic Left Party (DSP) . In the 55th government from 1997 to 1998 Gürel was Minister of State for the EU and Cyprus and government spokesman. He was also a member of the 56th government. In the 57th government he was again Minister of State with the same portfolio. Between July 12, 2002 and November 18, 2002, Gürel was Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. In the 20th and 21st legislative periods, Gürel was a member of the İzmir Province.

Gürel published four books on the history of Cyprus, the Cyprus conflict , Turkish-Greek relations and problems in Turkish foreign policy .

Şükrü Sina Gürel is married and has two children.
