from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hasan Gemici (born June 15, 1927 in Giresun , † June 25, 2001 in İzmit ) was a Turkish wrestler and Olympic champion in 1952 in Helsinki in free style in flyweight.

Career

Hasan Gemici grew up in İzmit , Prov. Kocaeli , and began as a teenager with the rings . He developed into an excellent freestyle wrestler. As a flyweight he had tough competition in Turkey , especially in Ali Yücel . When he resigned after the 1951 World Cup, the way to the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki was clear.

First Hasan won the 1951 Mediterranean Games in Alexandria in free style in flyweight. At the Olympic Games in Helsinki, the three flyweight medalists Hasan Gemici, Yūshū Kitano from Japan and Mahmoud Mollaghassemi from Iran defeated each other. So the best point ratio from the preliminary fights had to decide and that was Hassan Gemici. He was therefore Olympic champion ahead of Kitano and Mollaghassemi.

Hasan Gemici was replaced in Turkey by Hüseyin Akbaş and Ahmet Bilek as early as 1953 . Because of this, he did not get any further appearances at international championships. He ended his career as an active wrestler in 1955 and became a wrestler trainer in his hometown of Izmit. In the 1960s he also worked as a trainer in Romania for a few years .
