Ahmet Bilek (born March 15, 1932 in Kula , Manisa ; † October 4, 1970 in Bischmisheim , Germany ) was a Turkish wrestler . He was Olympic champion in Rome in 1960 in free style flyweight.

Career

Like most of the top Turkish wrestlers, Ahmet Bilek began as a youth in Eskişehir in the Turkish national sport of oil wrestling . In his youth he found his way to Olympic wrestling and quickly developed into an excellent wrestler in both styles at the "Demirspor" Eskişehir wrestling club. In 1950, as a 17-year-old, he was already there when an Izmir / Eskişehir national team wrestled against the German national team. At that time he was defeated by Heinrich Weber (Ringer, 1923) from Göppingen just on points. Against Weber he was defeated in an official international match on points in 1952.

In 1953 he was at the World Cup in Greco-Roman. Used flyweight style in Naples . He immediately hit the mark, won u. a. about the strong wrestlers Dumitru Pârvulescu from Romania and Ignazio Fabra from Italy and failed in the final fight only narrowly due to the Soviet Olympic champion from 1952 Boris Gurewitsch .

In the next few years Ahmet stagnated somewhat and was able to compete against strong competitors in his own country such as B. Dursun Ali Egribas , Hüseyin Akbaş and Mehmet Kartal not enforce. It was not until 1959 that he became Turkish flyweight champion again. At the world championship of the same year in Tehran in free style, he again won the silver medal. But his great moment struck at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome . He won five fights and became Olympic champion despite a loss to Ali Aliyev.

Then Ahmet Bilek went to the Federal Republic of Germany and competed in the German Bundesliga for the power sports club Köllerbach for many years . After health problems, he committed suicide in 1970.
