Mohammad Ali Khojastepour

Mohammad Ali Khojastehpour (* 1931 , † 2007 ) was an Iranian wrestler and silver medalist at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne in free style flyweight.

Career

Mohammad Ali Khojastepour started wrestling in the military and developed into an excellent freestyle wrestler. In the mid-1950s he replaced the then best Iranian flyweight Mahmoud Mollaghassemi and had his first international assignment in 1955 at the World Youth Festival in Warsaw . There he immediately reached a very good 3rd place.

Mohammad Ali was also at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 . He managed a remarkable victory over Turkish favorites Hüseyin Akbaş . However, he was defeated by the Soviet athlete Mirian Zalkalamanidze and won the silver medal .

His last start in an international championship was at the 1959 World Cup in his native Tehran . Mohammad Ali lost there against the Soviet wrestler Ali Alijew and fought against Ahmet Bilek from Turkey in a draw and had to be satisfied with 4th place.
