Primera División de Costa Rica 1954

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1954 season was the 34th season of the Primera División de Costa Rica , the highest Costa Rican soccer league. Ten teams took part. In the end, the season was not played, but in 1999 the decision was finally made to include the season in the statistics as the 34th season.

background

The previous season lasted almost until the summer of 1954, after which the clubs could not agree on a calendar with FEDEFUTBOL (Costa Rican Football Association). Therefore, in November 1954, only one cup competition was held with the 10 top division clubs (and started in January 1955 with the next season). In 1999, with the founding of the UNAFUT (league operating company, comparable to the DFL in Germany), the decision was made to specify the 1954 season as the 34th season, instead of the champion, simply desierto (canceled).
