Liga de Fútbol de Primera División 2014/15
The 2014/15 season included the 103rd and 104th edition of the Liga de Fútbol de Primera División , the highest Costa Rican football league. This season, as usual in recent years, two championships - Invierno JPS 2014 and Verano JPS 2015 - were played. An overall table was created from the results of both championships to determine the relegated to the Liga de Ascenso-Segunda División . The winners of both championships qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League 2015/16 . Saprissa managed to defend the title in Invierno 2014 and was crowned Costa Rican champion for the 31st time. In Verano 2015, Heredia was able to triumph again after two years and thus won his 24th championship title. Relegated is newcomer AS Puma.
Competition mode
The 2014/15 season was divided into the two seasons Invierno JPS 2014 and Verano JPS 2015 . The two championships were played in the following mode:
- First, the twelve participating teams played the best four teams in a single round (return leg) in the mode everyone against everyone .
- These four best teams play the two finalists in the first and second legs (1st against 4th, 2nd against 3rd) in the semi-finals.
- In the final, the two semi-final winners contested the championship in two legs.
An overall table was created from the main rounds of the two championships (Invierno and Verano). The last placed in this rating rose to the Liga de Ascenso-Segunda División .
Special additional rule
- Each squad (consisting of a maximum of 25 players) was allowed to have a maximum of four foreigners.
- Teams that played at least 990 minutes of U-21 players received a bonus of 500,000 Colones, the club with the highest number of U-21 minutes received a total of 2 million Colones.
Attendees
Except for relegated Puntarenas FC , all 11 other clubs from the previous season will continue to participate. New is As Puma Generaleña as climbers from the Liga de Ascenso-Segunda División . Of the seven Costa Rican provinces, Puntarenas and Guanacaste have no representatives in the FPD; San José is the most strongly represented with five clubs. The cities of Alajuela and the canton of Pérez Zeledón are each home to two clubs (AD Carmelita and LD Alajuelense or AD Municipal de Pérez Zeledón and AS Puma Generaleña), which play their home games in the same stadium.
