The 1951 season was the 31st season of the Primera División de Costa Rica , the highest Costa Rican soccer league . Ten teams took part. Heredia won the championship for the 13th time in the club's history.
Competition mode
- The ten participating teams played the championship in a single round (home and return) in the mode everyone against everyone .
- There was no relegation to the second division.

Torneo Relámpago 1951
The Torneo Relámpago , in which the first division teams participated and a game lasted only 30 minutes, was won by Orión in the final against SG Española.
