The 1953 season was the 33rd season of the Primera División de Costa Rica , the highest Costa Rican soccer league. Ten teams took part. Saprissa won the championship for the second time in the club's history. The championship did not end until 1954.

Competition mode

  • The ten participating teams played the championship in a single round (home and return) in the mode everyone against everyone .
  • The last placed played a playdown game against the second from bottom, the loser a relegation game against the champions of the 2nd division.
