Liga de Fútbol de Primera División 2013/14

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2013/14 season included the 101st and 102nd edition of the Liga de Fútbol de Primera División (until December 2013 still Primera División de Costa Rica), the highest Costa Rican soccer league. In this season, as usual in recent years, two championships - Invierno JPS 2013 and Verano JPS 2014 - were played. An overall table was created from the results of both championships to determine the relegated to the Liga de Ascenso-Segunda División . The winners of both championships qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League 2014/15 . In Invierno 2013 Alajuelense secured the 29th championship title in the club's history, in Verano 2014 record champion Saprissa was able to triumph for the 30th time. Puntarenas was relegated to the second division.

Competition mode

The 2013/14 season was divided into the two seasons Invierno 2013 and Verano 2014. The two championships were played in the following mode:

  • First, the twelve participating teams played the best four teams in a single round (return leg) in the mode everyone against everyone .
  • These four best teams played the two finalists in the first and second legs (1st against 4th, 2nd against 3rd) in the semi-finals.
  • In the final, the two semi-final winners played off the champions in both legs.

An overall table was created from the main rounds of the two championships (Invierno and Verano). The last placed in this rating rose to the Liga de Ascenso-Segunda División .

Special additional rule

  • Each squad (consisting of a maximum of 25 players) was allowed to have a maximum of four foreigners.

Attendees

Except for relegated AD San Carlos , all other 11 clubs from the previous season continued to participate. New here was CF Universidad de Costa Rica as a climber from the Liga de Ascenso-Segunda División .
