The 1970 season was the 51st season of the Primera División de Costa Rica , the highest Costa Rican soccer league. Ten teams took part. Alajuela won the championship for the 11th time in the club's history.
Competition mode
- The ten participating teams played the master in a double round in the mode everyone against everyone .
- The last placed as well as the second last were relegated to the second division.

Torneo de Copa 1970
Saprissa won the Torneo de Copa 1970 , which was played in a group round with six participants. In addition to Saprissa, three other first division clubs (Cartaginés, Puntarenas and Herediano) and two second division clubs (Paraíso and Rohrmoser) took part.
