The University of Ankara (Turkish: Ankara Üniversitesi ) is a public university in the Turkish capital Ankara with about 45,000 students and 3,720 academic staff.
history
The history of this Ankara University goes back to the establishment of the law school in 1925. In 1933, a "High Institute for Agriculture", Yüksek Ziraat Enstitüsüdür YZE, was also founded, which began teaching in 1935. In 1935 the Faculty of Language, History and Geography followed. In 1936, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk ordered the Mekteb-i Mülkiye administrative school, founded in 1859, to be relocated to Ankara and renamed it the School of Political Science. Today the faculty is still called Mülkiye . This administration school already served the education of elite bureaucrats for the state in the Ottoman Empire. The physics faculty was founded in 1943 and the medical faculty in 1945. Ankara University emerged from these faculties in 1946.
In 1948 the High Institute for Agriculture and the Faculty of Veterinary Science were added. In 1949 the Faculty of Theology was founded. The School of Political Science received faculty status in 1950. In 1960 the Faculty of Pharmacy was founded. The University of Dentistry, founded in 1963, became a faculty in 1977. In 1965 the Faculty of Education and the School of Press and Publishing were founded, the latter later being transformed into the Faculty of Communication Studies. The Faculty of Engineering emerged from the Faculty of Physics in 2001. The Faculty of Health Education began teaching in 1996 and was renamed the Faculty of Health Science in 2007.
Faculty of Theology
The Faculty of Theology has played a leading role in Turkey to this day. Here a group of modernist theologians has formed who deal with fundamental methodological questions at a high theological and philosophical level and strive for a new, contemporary understanding of Islam. The district calls itself the Ankaran School .
