İsmail Kılıç Kökten
İsmail Kılıç Kökten (* 1904 in Ünye , † July 25, 1974 in Ankara ) was a Turkish archaeologist .
After schooling in Kütahya and Trabzon , Kökten worked as a teacher in Samsun from 1923 to 1936 . He then studied philology, history and geography at the University of Ankara , where he became an assistant at the Institute for Ethnology and Anthropology in 1941. In 1947 he received his doctorate , he received the title of Doçent in 1953. In 1959 he became a professor at the Department of Prehistory at Ankara University.
As an archaeologist, he worked in the field of Anatolian early history. He was active in excavations in the area of Samsun (1941 with Tahsin Özgüç and Nimet Özgüç), at Gaziantep ( Perrhe , 1945/46), in Niksar (1947) and around Antalya (1946-1958), where he carried out the excavations in the Karain -Cave , which he continued from 1967-1973 together with Işın Yalçınkaya . There he was also responsible for setting up the local museum. With the excavations in Karain and in the cave of Kadıini near Alanya , Kökten brought to light the oldest finds on Anatolian territory to date.
