The Ministry of Interior of Turkey is a ministry of the Republic of Turkey . The name is Türkiye Cumhuriyeti İçişleri Bakanlığı , Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. Earlier names were Dahiliye Vekâleti and in the Ottoman Empire Dahiliye Nezareti . The Ministry of the Interior had its predecessor in the Ottoman Empire in the office of Grand Vizier (Sadrazam) .
Tasks and areas
The Ministry of the Interior is responsible for:
- To manage the security facilities subordinate to the Ministry. The police , the gendarmerie ( Jandarma ) and the coast guard ( Sahil Güvenlik Komutanlığı ) ensure the existence of the Republic of Turkey, security in the country, the functioning of the law and compliance with the constitution.
- Security at the borders at airports, on land and at sea
- The organization and control of road traffic
- Fight against crime
- Observe and analyze domestic politics. To inform the provinces (İl) and counties (İlçe) about all relevant events and to inform and advise the President.
- Services such as issuing and renewing official ID cards. Responsible for civil status and registration
- The execution of the decisions of the President
