İsmet Sezgin
İsmet Sezgin (* 1928 in Aydın ; † December 7, 2016 in Ankara ) was a Turkish politician and President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey .
Life
Sezgin graduated from elementary school in Aydın and high school in İzmir . In 1950 he graduated from the University of Economics and Commerce in İzmir. During his time as a student he was the president of a student association. He started to work in the Denizli branch of the real estate lending bank. Sezgin married Saadet Hanım, who worked as a math teacher in Denizli.
In 1952 he was elected to the board of directors of the Democrat Parti in Denizli. In 1955, at the age of 27, he was elected mayor of Aydıns. After the Committee of National Unity on 27 May 1960 coup , had İsmet Sezgin like all other politicians of the ruling party was arrested. After his release, he founded the Adalet Partisi Provincial Association in Aydın . In the parliamentary elections of 1961 he was elected a member of the Aydın Province in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey . Between 1963 and 1985, Sezgin was President of the Turkish Association of City Governments. In 1968 Sezgin became deputy chairman of the Adalet Partisi. On November 3, 1969, he became Minister for Sport and Youth in the Second Demirel government. He also held this post in the Third Demirel government. On March 12, 1971 , the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces wrote a note. Then the I. Erim government came to power. Sezgin then resigned from his position as minister. Sezgin was a member of the Adalet Partisi for the province of Aydın from 1961 to 1980. Sezgin became Minister of Finance in the 6th Demirel government on November 12, 1979. After the military coup on September 12, 1980, he had to resign.
After the political activity ban expired in 1988, Sezgin became a member of the Doğru Yol Partisi . In 1991 he was elected MP for Aydın Province. On November 20, 1991, Sezgin became Minister of the Interior in the Seventh Demirel government . After Demirel was elected president on June 25, 1993 and Tansu Çiller was elected party chairman of the DYP, Sezgin resigned from office. In 1995 he was elected President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Sezgin was a founding member of the Democrat Türkiye Partisi, founded by Hüsamettin Cindoruk on January 7, 1997 . On June 30, 1997 Sezgin was in the III. Yılmaz Government Minister of Defense . In 1999 Sezgin was elected party leader of the DTP. On May 18, 2002, he resigned from office and ended his political career.
In the Ataturk - Mahalle the district Bornova province İzmir named an elementary school after him.
