İsmail Kahraman

İsmail Kahraman (* 1940 in İkizdere , Turkey ) is an Islamist Turkish politician ( AKP ) and was President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey , the Parliament of Turkey, until July 2018 .

Kahraman attended elementary and middle school in Karabük and high school in Istanbul. He then studied law at Istanbul University . In the legislative terms from 1995 and 1999, Kahraman was a member of parliament for an Istanbul constituency. From 1996 to 1997 he was Minister of Culture under Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan . In November 2015 he became President of the Turkish Parliament.

In April 2016, Kahraman called for the abolition of the secularism introduced in 1937 and instead an Islamic constitution. Literally, Kahraman said, “We are in a Muslim country. [...] The new constitution must not contain a definition of secularism ”.

On July 15, 2017, on the occasion of an event on the anniversary of the coup in Turkey, Kahraman said: “People, flags, Koran, faith, calls to prayer, freedom and independence are our honor, our dignity. We break the hands of those who attack our values, cut off their tongues and destroy their lives. "
