Nimet Baş (previously Çubukçu ; born March 2, 1965 in Karaman Province ) is a Turkish lawyer, former Minister of Education of the Republic of Turkey and current member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey .

Çubukçu graduated from the Faculty of Law at İstanbul Üniversitesi and worked as a freelance lawyer. She is a founding member of the Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (AKP). Çubukçu was a member of the 22nd legislative period (October 14, 2002 to July 22, 2007) of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. She was Minister of State in the 59th government ( 1st Erdoğan Cabinet ). After the AKP's renewed election victory in 2007 , she continued to be Minister of State in Erdoğan's Second Cabinet . In this role she managed:

  • managing the administration for the disabled
  • the General Directorate of the Institute for Social Services and for the Protection of Children ( SHÇEK )
  • the General Directorate for Studies on Family and Social Affairs
  • the General Directorate for the Status of Women
  • the management of the auxiliary organization Darülaceze

On May 1, 2009, as part of a cabinet reshuffle, she was appointed Minister of Education and was the only female minister in the cabinet. For the 2011 elections, she ran for Istanbul Province and moved back to parliament. Her successor as Minister of Education was Ömer Dinçer .

She speaks German, is divorced and has one child.
