Allen Irvine McHose

Allen Irvine McHose (born May 14, 1902 , † September 14, 1986 in Naples , New York ) was an American musicologist , teacher and organist.

McHose was assistant director of the Eastman School of Music , head of the departments of music theory and professor of music theory. As director of the school's summer music program, he founded the Arranger's Holiday concert series . He also worked as an organist and choirmaster at the Brick Presbyterian Church . He has written books on music history and theory, including The Contrapunctal Harmonic Technique of the 18th Century and Basic principles of the technique of 18th and 19th century composition , as well as the textbooks Sight-singing manual and Teachers Dictation Manual .
