from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anadolu Lisesi (Eng. "Anatolian Gymnasium") is a specific form of the gymnasium in Turkey. Foreign languages are intended as the language of instruction, but this often fails due to a lack of suitable teachers. Anadolu Lisesi with private sponsorship is called Özel Anadolu Lisesi , the state owned ones are called Resmi Anadolu Lisesi . Preparatory classes used to be the rule in which students were prepared for the respective language of instruction. The grammar schools have four classes and are considered elite grammar schools.

The schools are mostly co-educational. Schools abroad such as the German School Istanbul or the St. Georgs College are also Anatolian grammar schools. One of the most famous is the Galatasaray High School .
