Dear G – d… is the debut album by the American melodic hardcore / post hardcore band Being as an Ocean . It was released on October 23, 2012 via inVogue Records .

Being as an Ocean emerged in 2011 from the unblack metal band Vanguard and released their first songs in January 2011 under this name. These are called The Hardest Part Is Forgetting Those You Swore You Would Never Forget and Humble Servant, Am I , both of which were later to appear on the album.
The entire album was conceived and written by guitarist Tyler Ross. The album was in an abandoned hotel in downtown San Diego , the The Palms was tracked. The first two weeks were taken to record the drums , the following three weeks the band spent recording the vocals and guitar tracks. The group worked out a song every day. After the recordings were finished, the album was mixed by Brian Hood .
On June 28, 2012 the group was signed by inVogue Records and the album was initially announced for September 18 of the same year. At the end of August 2012, the first music video for The Hardest Part Is Forgetting Those You Swore You Would Never Forget was released and the album was postponed to October 23, 2012. It was last published on October 23, 2013
Theme and music
The songs were influenced by personal impressions of singer Joel Quartuccio. He describes the album as a journey inspired by conversations he had and feelings that needed to be let out. He processed his emotions in some songs because he wanted to give them an expression. He compared these pieces with letters he writes to God , which is why the album title was chosen.
Based on the message of the songs and the musical past of the musicians, the group is assigned to Christian rock music . Joel Quartuccio said in an interview that although there are signs of a Christian message, he mostly processed his own experiences and emotions in the songs. He later made this clear in an interview with the German FUZE Magazine that Being as an Ocean is not a Christian band, although he is a devout Christian himself. He supports the LGBT movement and is of the opinion that homosexual people can also live a Christian life. Quartuccio sees homosexuality as innate and not as a sin .
The music of Being as an Ocean on the album can be described as Melodic Hardcore with insertions of Post-Hardcore . Occasional elements of djent and post-rock can also be heard, even if these are only rudimentary in nature. Striking at the band's music is the use of rap in the style of Spoken Word in many passages of the songs.

Application and Success
The group toured the United States excessively . These included a concert tour in the opening act for Senses Fail as well as a first headlining tour. In March 2013 the band played for the first time in several European countries , including Germany , Sweden , the United Kingdom , Switzerland and Austria .
The album did not enter the official album charts, but took number 27 in the Heatseekers charts .
