Alternative Press is an American music magazine headquartered in Cleveland , Ohio with a focus on rock music , especially hardcore punk , punk , metal , emo and alternative rock . The magazine was founded in 1985 by Mike Shea.
history
The first edition of Alternative Press was a simple copied fanzine that dealt with concerts in Cleveland, Ohio. This was published in June 1985 and was written by Mike Shea. He didn't like the music that was on the radio stations and was of the opinion that underground bands should get more opportunities.
The first years of Alternative Press were marked by financial problems, with Shea borrowing money from his mother several times. Nevertheless, the magazine was completely discontinued at the end of 1986, and a new edition was not to appear until spring 1988.
With the popularity of alternative rock growing in the early 1990s, Alternative Press became more popular. In addition, bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soundgarden were selected for the cover of the magazine even before their mainstream success.
Nowadays, an issue of Alternative Press is 198 to 220 pages. Alternative Press is the main sponsor of the Warped Tour , the Taste of Chaos Tour, as well as their own The AP Tour . The headquarters are still in Cleveland.
Alternative Press Music Awards
On July 21, 2014, the first Alternative Press Music Awards ceremony took place in Cleveland, Ohio. The prizes were awarded in a total of 14 categories.
