Ratanabon Pagoda

The Ratanabon Pagoda ( Burmese ရတနာပုံ ဘုရား ; pronounced: jɛ̀dənàbòʊɴ pʰəjá) is a Buddhist stupa in Mrauk U , Myanmar . It was built in 1612 under King Min Khamaung .

description

The pagoda is in the neighborhood of the Andaw Pagoda and Shite Thaung Temple . It is made of sandstone, reaches a height of 60 m and is surrounded by a ring of 24 small pagodas. A bomb in the Second World War had destroyed the slender tip, but could not harm the massive substructure, any more than earthquakes or the treasure hunters who tracked down the suspected jewels. In 2000 the top of the pagoda was rebuilt.
