The Çiller I cabinet was the 50th government of Turkey , which was headed by Prime Minister Tansu Çiller from June 25, 1993 to October 5, 1995 .

The election in October 1991 was won by Doğru Yol Partisi (DYP) under Süleyman Demirel . The previously sole ruling Anavatan Partisi (ANAP) was punished. The DYP entered into a coalition with the social democrat Halkçı Parti (SHP) and DYP party leader Süleyman Demirel became the new prime minister.

On May 16, 1993, Süleyman Demirel was elected to succeed the late President Turgut Özal . Due to the provisions of the Turkish constitution, he had to give up his position as prime minister and chairman of the DYP. On June 13, 1993, the DYP elected Tansu Çiller as the new party leader and on June 25, the coalition elected the country's new prime minister. The SHP chairman Erdal İnönü , deputy prime minister under Demirel, withdrew from the government in early June and also resigned the office of party chairman. Murat Karayalçın took over both offices . On July 5, 1993, the new government survived the vote of confidence in parliament. Çiller and her government subsequently survived several political crises connected with an economic slump, the unsolved Kurdish problem and constitutional reform.

In 1992 Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP) , which was banned after the military coup in 1980 , was re-established and Deniz Baykal was elected chairman. As a result, several SHP MPs came together under Baykal's leadership to form their own parliamentary group. On February 18, 1995 the SHP was finally dissolved and the members joined the CHP. Baykal made tough demands on the DYP. When he sided with the unions in the escalating collective bargaining conflict, the government collapsed. The CHP announced its withdrawal from the coalition in late summer 1995 and Çiller submitted her resignation on September 20, 1995. The ruling DYP negotiated with the MHP from Alparslan Türkeş and the Demokratik Sol Parti (DSP) for a minority cabinet, but the vote of confidence on October 15th was lost. Early elections have been scheduled for December.
