The Cabinet İnönü VIII was the 26th government of Turkey that from 20 November 1961 to 25 June 1962 Prime Minister İsmet İnönü was headed.
After the military coup in Turkey in 1960 , the National Unity Committee convened a constituent assembly and called new elections in October 1961. This won the Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP) under İnönü. However, the party missed an absolute majority and had to form a coalition with the Adalet Partisi . The previous Prime Minister, Cemal Gürsel, was elected President. For a while, Fahri Özdilek headed the government until the election winners İnönü took over. However, the coalition only existed for a short time and broke up after a few months over the question of whether the imprisoned former Democrat Parti (DP) politicians should be given amnesty. The AP, which saw itself as the legitimate successor to the DP banned after the military coup, pushed for a pardon. Inonu refused and resigned in June 1962 to negotiate a new coalition with the opposition parties.
