The Menderes IV cabinet was the 22nd government of Turkey , led by Adnan Menderes from December 9, 1955 to November 25, 1957 .
The parliamentary elections on May 2, 1954 , the ruling Democrat Parti had won by a large margin over the Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi and the Cumhuriyetçi Millet Partisi . President Bayar subsequently appointed Menderes as prime minister.
In the course of 1955 there were clashes in the DP. Menderes' autocratic leadership style and the country's economic failures caused increasing displeasure in the party. When Menderes wanted to restrict press freedom, some DP MPs refused and left the party. As a result, Menderes reorganized his cabinet in early December 1955. The reign ended with the parliamentary elections on October 27, 1957 . The cabinet remained in office until a new government was formed. Although the DP lost 9.52% of the votes, it was able to assert itself as the strongest force and Menderes was again charged with forming a government.
