Alexander Porfirjewitsch Torzhin ( Russian Алекса́ндр Порфи́рьевич То́ршин ; born November 27, 1953 in the settlement of Mitoga, Ust-Bolscherezki rajon , Kamchatka Oblast ) is a Russian politician. From 2001 to 2015 he was a member of the  Federation Council , the upper house of the Russian parliament. Torzhin comes from the autonomous republic of  Mari El . He is a leading member of the ruling United Russia party  . He is also said to play a role in the  Russian mafia  .

Investigations in Spain

In 2016, Spanish investigators discovered links between Torzhin and Alexander Romanov, the leader of the Tambovskaya gang, who was arrested in Spain and sentenced to four years in prison in May 2016. Torzin was allegedly involved in money laundering  for the gang. Spanish intelligence agents overheard conversations suggesting Romanov was following Torzin's orders. Spain confiscated its property.
