Fatma Şahin

Fatma Şahin (born June 20, 1966 in Gaziantep ) is a Turkish chemical engineer and politician. From July 6, 2011 to December 25, 2013, she was Minister for Family and Social Policy within Erdoğan's third cabinet .

Life

She was born in 1966 to Mustafa and Perihan Şahin. She later studied chemical engineering at Istanbul Technical University . She then worked as an engineer and manager in the textile industry.

She went into politics with her husband İzzet Şahin and co-founded the Justice and Development Party (AKP). While actively participating in the provincial administration, she was elected three times as a MP for her hometown. She is the first female MP to be elected from Gaziantep and southeastern Anatolia. Fatma Şahin served as the head of the women's section of her party.

After the 2011 elections , she was the only woman in Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's cabinet . Her successor in office as family minister was the Turkish politician Ayşenur İslam on December 25, 2013 .

She has a daughter and a son.
