Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (born December 1, 1978 in Hamar , Hedmark ) is a Norwegian politician of the Senterpartiet (Sp). From June 18, 2012 to October 16, 2013 he was Minister for Agriculture and Food in the Stoltenberg II government .

Life

Studies and beginning of political career

Vedum, the son of a university lecturer and a teacher , visited after Breidablik - primary school and youth school in Romedal 1994-1995 a basic course in the teaching of natural sciences at the Agricultural College in Jonsberg and following courses in the teaching of natural management in the agricultural schools in Råde and Jonsberg. He then completed a degree in science at Hedmark University between 1997 and 1998 . Vedum then studied sociology and political science at the University of Oslo and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2002 .

While attending school, he has been involved in Senterungdommen , the youth association of the Senterpartiet, as well as in the Senterpartiet since 1993 and was, among other things, a board member of Sp in Stange from 1996 to 1998 and then until 2000 in Hedmark. He was also the youth leader of the Church of Norway between 1993 and 1999 .

In 1999 he was elected a member of the Provincial Council ( Fylkesting ) of Fylke Hedmark and was a member of this until 2005. During this time he was a member of the state board from 2000 to 2004 and of the central board of the Senterpartiet from 2002 to 2004 and at the same time chairman of the youth party Senterungdommen between 2002 and 2004 . Vedum was also involved in numerous other political and social organizations and was, among other things, chairman of the week of action against drug addiction ( Aksjonsuka mot narkotika ) from 2002 to 2004 and member of the board of the organizations No to nuclear weapons ( Nei til atomvåpen ) and No to the EU ( Nei til EU ) from 2005 to 2007.

In 2005 he was elected for the first time as a candidate for the Senterpartiet as a member of the Storting and has since represented the constituency of Hedmark there. During his parliamentary membership he was a member of the Storting committees for health and care ( Helse- og omsorgskomité ), elections ( Valgkomité ), municipal and administration ( Kommunal- og forvaltningskomité ) as well as for foreign affairs and defense ( Utenriks- og forsvarskomité ) and is during for the legislative period from 2009 to 2013 also member of the delegation for relations with the European Parliament .

From October 1, 2008 and September 30, 2009 he was the second vice-president of the Odelsting , the now dissolved First Chamber of the Storting. After he was deputy chairman from June 2008 to September 2009, he became chairman of the Sp parliamentary group in Storting on October 1, 2009 as the successor to Magnhild Meltveit Kleppa .

In 2009 he became the second vice chairman of the Senterpartiet; In 2013 he was elected deputy parliamentary group leader of the Sp. Finally, on April 7, 2014, he succeeded party leader Liv Signe Navarsete .
