Marit Arnstad (born May 4, 1962 in Stjørdal ) is a Norwegian politician of the Senterpartiet (Sp). She was Minister of Oil and Energy between 1997 and 2000 and Minister of Transport between 2012 and 2013 .

Life

Arnstad graduated in 1991 with a law degree. Before that, she worked as a representative journalist at Trønder-Avisa, Nations and Verdens Gang since 1985 . In the years 2000 to 2001 and 2006 to 2012, when she did not hold any major political office, she worked as a lawyer in various law firms.

Between 1979 and 1981 Arnstad was deputy chairman of the youth organization Senterungdom in North Trøndelag . From 1982 she was first deputy chairwoman of the youth party at the federal level, from 1986 to 1988 first chairwoman. Between 1986 and 1988 and between 2003 and 2005, Arnstad was a member of the Senterpartiet executive committee. From 1989 to 1991 she was Vice President of the European Youth Forum . Between 1989 and 1997 she was active in various bodies of the Norwegian anti-EU organization Nei til EU . From 2010 to 2012 she was a member of the executive committee of her party in Nord-Trøndelag.

Arnstad was a member of the Norwegian Parliament in Storting from 1993 to 1997, 2001 to 2005 and now since 2013 . Between 2003 and 2005 and since 2014 she has been the parliamentary leader of her party. In 1997 she was appointed Minister of Oil and Energy under Kjell Magne Bondevik , an office in which she served until 2000. From June 2012 to October 2013 she was also Minister of Transport in Jens Stoltenberg's second government .
