Guro Fjellanger

Guro Fjellanger (born January 26, 1964 in Bergen - † April 15, 2019 ) was a Norwegian politician of the social liberal party Venstre . From 1997 to 2000 she was the environment minister of her country.

Political career

Fjellanger was chairman of the youth organization Unge Venstre from 1986 to 1988 . Subsequently, she was involved in the organization Nei til EU , which opposed Norway's accession to the European Union . Between 1988 and 1991 she was its deputy chairwoman, until 1995 she was the secretary general.

From 1994 to 2000 Fjellanger was a member of her party's executive committee. From 1996 she was the deputy chairwoman of Venstre. Between 1996 and 1997 she was also the chair of the Norwegian Organization for Asylum Seekers (NOAS), a member organization of the European Council on Refugees and Exiles . On October 17, 1997, she was appointed Environment Minister in the Bondevik I government. She held the office until March 17, 2000. Between 2007 and 2015 she was a councilor in Oslo .

Private

Fjellanger was born with the neural tube malformation spina bifida . She was therefore dependent on crutches or a wheelchair.
