Unge Venstre (UV; The Young Liberals of Norway ) is the youth organization of the Norwegian party Venstre . They were founded on January 27, 1909 .

Principles

  • Unge Venstre is committed to liberal values. The ideology of the Unge Venstre has its origins in liberalism and the idea of inviolable freedom of the individual. The Young Liberals of Norway believe that every single person has a fundamental right to determine their own life, that all people have equal rights and are equal. Their liberal ideal of equality is that all people should have equal rights and equal opportunities. Any idea of equality beyond that comes into conflict with human freedom and is therefore rejected. The consequence of being able to decide individually creates a diverse and rich society.
  • Membership is open to young people between the ages of 13 and 35.
  • Unge Venstre advocates the greatest possible degree of personal and economic freedom for the individual, coupled with public educational offers and welfare services .
  • Also environmental protection is an important topic. The main program points are climate policy , education policy and EU accession .

Relationship to the parent party

  • Unge Venstre is an independent youth organization that works with Venstre .
  • Traditionally, the Unge Venstre advocates that the parent party describes itself as liberal and not as socially liberal .

EU

In contrast to the parent party Venstre, the Young Liberals are clearly in favor of Norway joining the EU . Traditionally they were against joining the EU, but changed their program in 2000 at their national assembly in Bergen . At the national assembly in 2006, an even clearer EU policy was formulated; today they call themselves federalists and are one of Norway's most pro-European youth parties.

The parent party is divided on the question of EU membership. According to the Storting election program for the 2005–2009 legislative period , Venstre spoke out against EU membership, but the MPs should act on the result of a referendum .

When she took office, the chairwoman of Unge Venstre , Anne Solsvik, said her most important task was to change Venstre's position on the EU issue.

history

Unge Venstre was founded on January 27, 1909 at a meeting in Det norske Studentersamfundet and is the second oldest youth policy organization in Norway. Anders Kirkhusmo was its first chairman. Oslo Unge Venstre was founded the year before. With the German occupation of Norway in 1940, the political parties were banned and Unge Venstre had to cease their activities. During the occupation the archives of Venstre and Unge Venstre were confiscated and have been lost ever since.
