International Federation of Liberal Youth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

International Federation of Liberal Youth (in English : "Internationale Föderation Liberaler Jugend"), IFLRY , is an association of liberal youth organizations around the world and at the same time the youth organization of the Liberal International (LI). Until 2001, the organization used the word radical as an additional adjective , but it was rated as out of date, which led to its deletion, but the abbreviation was retained for historical and practical reasons. The organization has been chaired by the Lebanese Ahmad Al Rachwani from the youth organization of the Future Movement since 2018 ; Secretary General is Sven Gerst from the German JuLis . IFLRY is headquartered in the British capital, London .

In addition to the FDP- affiliated Young Liberals , IFLRY in German-speaking countries also includes Jungfreisinnigen Schweiz and JUNOS - Young Liberal NEOS .

history

The first constituent meeting of IFLRY took place in 1979 in Silkeborg , Denmark . IFLRY replaced both the World Federation of Liberal and Radical Youth and the European Federation of Liberal and Radical Youth as partially competing organizations and bundled their competencies.

The World Federation of Liberal and Radical Youth was initially founded in Cambridge , Great Britain on August 26, 1946 , but collapsed in 1978 when the dominance of the European Federation of Liberal and Radical Youth, founded in 1969, and its parent organization could no longer be reversed made redundant.

IFLRY has grown steadily over the past few years . By the turn of the millennium , IFLRY had members on all continents and more than 80 full and consultative member organizations on all continents, in 2005 there were 90. From 2001 to 2005, the Macedonian Emil Kirjas of the Liberal Democratic Youth (LiDeM) was the chairman of the organization, and in 2004 he was State Secretary Macedonian Foreign Ministry and 2007 Secretary General of the Liberal International. He was replaced on January 1, 2006 by the Dane Jacob Rasmussen from Venstres Ungdom .

In 2006 the association moved from Brussels to London .

Association documents are kept in the archive of liberalism of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Gummersbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

Act

IFLRY regularly organizes congresses, seminars and demonstrations all over the world to draw attention to the interests and suggestions of young liberals for a liberal world and has thus developed into a strong representative of young liberal interests despite its relatively young history.

construction

The highest decision-making body is the general assembly. It decides on changes to the ideological basis of the organization, the manifesto and the action plan. The Executive Committee, to which one representative from each member organization is sent, is appointed by the General Assembly.

At the European level there is an association of liberal youth organizations under the name LYMEC .
