Doris Belack

Doris Belack (born February 26, 1926 in New York City , † October 4, 2011 ) was an American film and theater actress .

life and career

Belack began her career at the New York theater, where she remained active into old age. At the same time, she made her first appearances in television productions.

In 1955 she was involved in the recordings of Sidney Poitier's spoken word record Poetry of the Negro .

She became known to an international audience in 1982 for her role as television producer Rita Marshall in Sydney Pollack's comedy Tootsie , in which she appeared on the side of Dustin Hoffman and Jessica Lange .

From 1990 to 2001 she took on the role of judge Margaret Barry in 10 episodes of the television series Law & Order . She impersonated the same role from 2000 to 2001 in three episodes of the branch Law & Order: New York . She was also cast as a judge in other television series such as Lifestories: Families in Crisis , Picket Fences - Tatort Gartenzaun , Cosby and New York Undercover .

Belack was married to the theater producer Philip Rose from 1946 until his death on May 31, 2011 . The marriage remained childless.
