Kristin Halvorsen (born September 2, 1960 in Horten ) is a Norwegian politician of the Socialist Left Party (SV). After the 2013 parliamentary elections, she withdrew from active politics.

Life

Halvorsen studied social pedagogy and criminology . She joined the socialist youth organization ( Sosialistisk Ungdom ) in 1982 and was its chairman from 1984 to 1986. She became a member of the SV in 1985 and was its chairman from 1997 to 2012. Already in 2011, Halvorsen had announced her resignation from the party chairmanship for March 2012 after the SV had to accept significant losses in the municipal and Fylkestings election . She was a member of the Storting from 1989 to 2013, a. a. as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Electoral Committee and the Delegation for links with the European Parliament .

Kristin Halvorsen formed the leadership of a tripartite government with Jens Stoltenberg ( Social Democrats ) and Liv Signe Navarsete ( Center Party ) until 2012 . From 2005 to 2009 Halvorsen was Minister of Finance , on October 20, 2009 she moved to the Ministry of Science, responsible for schools and kindergartens, while Tora Aasland was responsible for research and universities.
