The Sosialistisk Ungdom (short SU ; German: Sozialistische Jugend ) is the youth organization of the Norwegian party Sosialistisk Venstreparti (SV). Andreas Sjalg Unneland has been the chairman of the organization since 2018 . In 2019 the SU had 1,473 members.

history

In 1970 the Sosialistisk Folkepartis Ungdom (SFU) was founded, which became the new youth organization of the Sosialistisk Folkeparti (SF). Its former youth organization, the Marxist - Leninist Sosialistisk Ungdomsforbund (SUF), had split off from its parent organization. In February 1975 the Sosialistisk Ungdom was established after the Sosialistisk Venstreparti (SV) was founded through a merger of several parties. A close cooperation developed with the youth organization of the environmental organization Norges Naturvernforbund , Natur og Ungdom .

Until the 1990s, the chairmen of the SU were close to the parent party, but this changed when Kari Anne Moe was elected as the new SU chairman. She won in 1999 against Inga Marte Thorkildsen , who belonged to the more moderate wing. Moe's wing, on the other hand, demanded that the SV program no longer be used as the basis for the organization, but rather that the SU should develop its own program of principles. After the election, the Sosialistisk Venstreparti restricted the right of their youth organization to have a say in their parliamentary group meetings in the Storting national parliament . In the course of the 2000s, the SU and SV converged again.

The SU published the Kraftverk magazine until 2015 . The organization organizes a summer camp every year, often like other left youth parties on the island of Utøya .

Positions

In most positions the SU lies to the left of its parent party. The SU describes itself as a feminist , socialist and revolutionary organization. She advocates higher penalties for rape and mandatory labeling of retouched advertisements. Furthermore, the Youth Party against Racism wants that no state funds should flow to organizations with what it considers to be racist attitudes. In the area of climate and environmental policy , she relies on the expansion of public transport and criticizes the expansion of oil and gas production in Norway. Another demand is the end of the country's NATO membership.
