Kirsti Bergstø (born July 1, 1981 in Rana ) is a Norwegian politician of the Sosialistisk Venstreparti (SV). From 2010 to 2012 she was State Secretary in the Jens Stoltenberg II government , and has been the party's deputy chairwoman since 2017.

Life

Bergstø attended secondary school in Vadsø from 1997 to 2000 . Between 1998 and 2000 she was vice-chairman of the student organization in the province of Finnmark . After graduating, she studied child education at Finnmark University and Oslo University from 2001 to 2009 . She interrupted her studies from 2006 to 2008 when she was chairwoman of the youth organization Sosialistisk Ungdom (SU). In 2009 she was deployed in the crisis center in Alta , after which she worked at the Norwegian employment office NAV in Nesseby until 2010 . Between 2008 and 2009 she was a member of the board of the EU-critical organization Nei til EU .

On November 19, 2010 Bergstø was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Children and Gender Equality. She held the office until March 5, 2012, when she and Minister Audun Lysbakken had to leave the government. She then returned to Nesseby, where she again worked as a teacher. In the 2013 parliamentary elections , she moved into Parliament in Storting , where she then represented the Finnmark constituency. From November 2014 to September 2017 she was deputy parliamentary group leader of her party.

In March 2017 she was elected deputy chairwoman of the SV. In September 2017 she lost her seat in parliament. In the federal elections in September 2019 she was the SV's top candidate for the post of Fylkesordførerin the new province of Troms og Finnmark . Bergstø spoke out against the formation of the province. She eventually moved into the Fylkesting of the province and became the parliamentary group leader of her party.
