Inga Marte Thorkildsen (born July 2, 1976 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian politician of the left Sosialistisk Venstreparti (SV). From March 2012 to October 2013 she was Minister for Children, Equality and Inclusion in her country. She has been a member of the Oslo city government since 2015.

Life

Origin and education

Thorkildsen is the daughter of Heming Olaussen , the leader of the organization Nei til EU , which speaks out against Norway joining the European Union . From 1993 to 1997 she worked as a freelance journalist for the newspaper Tønsberg blad . From 1996 to 2000 she studied the history of religion and political science with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa .

Storting MPs

Between 1996 and 2000 Thorkildsen was a member of the board of directors of the youth party Sosialistisk Ungdom , she lost the election as chairman in 1999. In the 2001 parliamentary elections , she entered the Norwegian national parliament in Storting for the first time in what was then Vestfold . There she first became a member of the Justice Committee, after the 2005 election she moved to the Health and Welfare Committee. During the current period it was transferred to the Energy and Environment Committee. Following the parliamentary elections in 2009 , Thorkildsen went to the finance committee of the Storting. In the period between October 2007 and March 2012, she was also the deputy group leader of the SV.

Minister and member of the Oslo city government

On March 23, 2012 she was appointed Minister for Children, Equality and Inclusion under Jens Stoltenberg after her party colleague Audun Lysbakken had to resign from this post. In the same year she was elected deputy chairwoman of the SV, an office that she held until 2015. In the 2013 parliamentary elections , Thorkildsen failed to move back into the Storting. She also had to hand over her ministerial office to Solveig Horne on October 16, 2013 , as there was a change of government after the election.

Since 2015 she has been part of the city government ( Byråd ) of Oslo: until 2017 she was responsible for seniors, health and social services, now she is responsible for education and child development. She kept this post after the local elections in September 2019.

accusations

In September 2018, three complaints about Thorkildsen's behavior in the office were received by the Oslo administration. The first clue was directed against her alleged misconduct towards employees of the Oslo Education Authority, who is said to have yelled at her several times. Inga Marte Thorkildsen then stated that the relationship with the authority was actually difficult and that they lacked the will to cooperate on the part of their employees. This statement led to the second complaint, as the politician allegedly broke the ban on speaking out publicly about such complaints. The third lead of wrongdoing was directed to the chairman of the city government, Raymond Johansen , and related to leaks of confidential files.

The anonymous allegations were viewed by some as part of a power struggle between then head of the education authority, Astrid Søgnen, and Thorkildsen. On the day of the first complaint, Søgnen would have learned that she would soon have to resign. Raymond Johansen, who conducted the internal investigation into the first two complaints, acquitted Thorkildsen of the allegations in November that she had broken no rules and that he expressed his confidence in her. The third complaint was settled by the relevant committee.
