Odelsting
The Odelsting (from Old Norse ōthal , Odal (srecht) 'and thing ' assembly ') was a body consisting of 3 ⁄ 4 of the members of the Norwegian Storting until October 1, 2009 . As of 2009, the Lagting and Odelsting institutions are abolished by the law of February 20, 2007, and only the Storting remains.
Odelsting was introduced by Section 49 of the Eidsvoll constitution . It was one of two departments of the Storting. The other was the lagging .
The members of the Odelsting had the right to initiate legislation in addition to the individual councilors of the government. Such a bill was first submitted to the Odelsting. After the consultation in the Odelsting, the draft law was submitted to the Lagting. If these two bodies reached an agreement, it was published after countersigning by the king and became law. The bodies themselves were not in agreement, the draft was sent to the plenary of the Storting, where a 2 / 3 -Mehrheit for adoption was necessary.
According to Section 83, the Odelsting was also responsible for indicting Councilors of State before the Reichsgericht.
