Nordland is a province ( Fylke ) in Norway . On February 27, 2020, 241,235 people lived here on 38,163 km². The capital of the province is Bodø . The Lofoten archipelago and the southern areas of Vesterålen also belong to the Nordland province .

Although the Norwegian island of Jan Mayen is administered from the province of Nordland, it is not part of the province, but a special part of the Kingdom of Norway.

Municipalities

There are 41 municipalities in Nordland (population figures as of February 27, 2020). On January 1, 2020 Ballangen and parts of Tysfjord merged with Narvik, while the remaining parts of Tysfjord became Hamarøy. Tjeldsund moved to the new province of Troms og Finnmark and formed a new municipality of Tjeldsund with Skånland .
