Moskenes is a municipality in the Lofoten region in the Norwegian Fylke Nordland .

Location and dates

The Moskenes municipality is located on the island of Moskenesøy , in the south of Lofoten. Here is the highest mountain in western Lofoten, the Hermannsdalstinden with a height of 1029 m. The administrative seat of the municipality is in Reine .

Other places on Moskenesøya are Å , Sørvågen , Tind , Reine , Sakrisøy and Hamnøy .

history

In 1906, a wireless telegraph was set up in Sørvågen , a town in Moskenes Municipality. The first wireless telephone connection was set up here in 1928.

In 1963 Lofot Street was established, part of today's European route 10 .

Economy and Transport

economy

Fishing is still the most important economic factor today. Attempts to expand the fishing industry to include salmon farming were given up a few years ago. In recent years tourism has become more and more important.

The European route 10 connects the island of Moskenesøya with the other northern islands of Lofoten. Since December 1st 2007 the Lofoten mainland connection (Lofast) has provided a ferry-free connection with the mainland.

There are ferry connections to Bodø , Værøy and Røst .

There are good bus connections to Leknes , Svolvær and Stamsund . In Leknes there is an airport with a connection to Bodø, in Svolvær and Stamsund the ships of the Hurtigruten stop .
