Junkerdal is a valley that extends to the east. The area was declared a national park in 2004. The size is 682 km². Rare orchids grow in the valley that are otherwise not found so far north.
Saltdal Museum is about 1 km north of Rognan. The museum is arranged around a “captain's yard” built in 1750. Once a year a freighter loaded with fish and furs drove from here to Bergen and returned with everyday goods for the inhabitants of the Saltdales. Around 20 historical buildings from the area were arranged next to the “Kapitänshof”, thus forming a small open-air museum .
The Blood Path Museum is attached to the Saltdal Museum. It commemorates the fate of the prisoners of war who had to do forced labor here from 1942 to 1945 during the German occupation of Norway . The slave laborers had to build the stretch of road between Saltnes and Saksenvik . Due to high casualties, this road was called the blood route .
