Meløy is a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Nordland . The center of the municipality on the North Sea is the village of Ørnes with 1700 inhabitants. The place is on the Mesøyfjord and is called by the ships of the Hurtigrute .

The coastline is 514 km. About 755 islands in Gåsvær, Meløy and Glomfjord belong to the municipality, including Teksmona . The municipality has a land area of ​​874 km². 174 km² of this is forest area and around 16 km² are used for agriculture.

The number of inhabitants increases compared to municipalities in the surrounding area, e.g. B. Gildeskål , slower. In 1990 there were 7,100 people living in the municipality, in 2007 there were only 6,600.

The Engabreen Glacier, a spur of the Svartisen , is a popular tourist attraction.
