Leirfjord is a municipality in the Norwegian province of Nordland . The name is derived from the fjord of the same name. This in turn is named after the river Leira , which flows into the fjord.

The inhabitants of the municipality live mainly from agriculture and the use of the sea. Many residents commute to work in other municipalities. From Leland it is about 15 minutes drive to Sandnessjøen , 45 minutes to Mosjøen and 90 minutes to Mo i Rana .

The 1,065 m long Helgelandsbrua bridge is one of the longest in northern Norway and crosses the Leirfjord. The bridge connects the municipality of Leirfjord with the municipality of Alstahaug .
