Træna is a municipality with 435 inhabitants (as of February 27, 2020) in the Norwegian province of Nordland . The Arctic Circle runs through the municipality, which lies 33 nautical miles (65 km) west of the Norwegian coast in the North Sea . The name comes from the Old Norse Þriðna and possibly refers to the number þrír (three).
With an area of 16.5 km², the municipality is one of the smallest in Norway. The area is spread over 1000 small islands, of which only Husøy, Selvær, Sanna, Sørsandøy and Nordsandøy are inhabited. The municipality's administrative center is on the island of Husøy. Most of the inhabitants live here (approx. 380). The inhabitants live mainly from fishing .
There are many indications of very early colonization on the islands. On the island of Sanna, remains that are 9,000 years old have been found and are among the earliest indications of settlement in Norway.

Træna Festival
Since 2003 there has been a music festival in Træna every July with around 5000 visitors. Mostly Scandinavian, but also local and international artists and bands of all musical styles give concerts at various locations for three days (Thursday to Saturday). International greats such as Marit Larsen (NO, 2006/2009), Manu Chao (FR 2011/2012) and Vintage Trouble (USA, 2013) also perform on the main stage .
The most special appearance, long traded as an insider tip, takes place in a rock cathedral (Kirkehelleren) on the island of Sanna as the northernmost rock festival in the world for thousands of visitors.

The municipality can only be reached by ship. There are connections with ferries and speedboats from Sandnessjøen , Nesna , Stokkvågen (arrival via Mo i Rana ) and Bodø.
From Sandnessjøen, Nesna and Bodø via the island Onøy in Lurøy , Træna is approached via the Trænaruta (route 18-191) with a speedboat from the company Torghatten Nord .
From Stokkvågen (Arrival on Mo i Rana) which operates car ferry company Boreal (Route 18-192)
You can also travel to Mo i Rana by train, if you book in good time, you will receive a flat-rate ticket for a trip with the NSB in sleeping seats across Norway. There is a bus from Mo i Rana to Stokkvågen.
A local speedboat from Fylke Nordland (route 18-195) also operates between the various islands .
Calls to individual moorings are often only possible upon prior reservation by a certain time on a telephone number noted in the timetable (Behovsanløp).
