Lurøy is a municipality in the Norwegian province of Nordland . The center of the municipality is the place of the same name Lurøy.
The municipality is located just south of the Arctic Circle on the western side of the Saltfjell mountain . There are a total of 1372 small and large islands in the municipality. The total area of the municipality is 1300 km², of which only 265 km² is land area, the rest is sea area. 60% of the population live on islands and around 40% on the mainland. The number of residents is steadily decreasing. Between 1994 and 2004, the number of inhabitants decreased by 8.5%.
