Tysfjord ( Lule Divtasvuodna ) was an existing from 1869 to the end of 2019 municipality in the province of Nordland in Northern Norway , which at the same fjord was. The administrative center was Kjøpsvik . As part of the local government reform in Norway , Tysfjord was split up on January 1, 2020: the northeast part came together with Ballangen to Narvik , the southwest part to Hamarøy .

history

In Leiknes, south of Korsnes , there are finds of 55 animal figures that are estimated to be between 8000 and 9000 years old.

Tysfjord Municipality was established in 1869 when Lødingen Municipality was split up. In 1964 part of the municipality was transferred to the southern municipality of Hamarøy . As part of the state-wide municipal reform, the municipality was dissolved at the end of 2019 and the southern part was transferred to Hamarøy on January 1, 2020, the northern part to Narvik .

In 2016, Tysfjord was in the media focus because of over 150 cases of sexual abuse in the community over decades.

economy

For a long time, fishing in the Tysfjord was important to the municipality's economy . In the course of time, the breeding of salmon and cod became more important. In agriculture, sheep breeding was of greater importance. In 2014, 27 percent of jobs were in industry, including in a cement factory in Kjøpsvik.
