Sean Hickey
Sean Hickey (* 1970 in Detroit ) is an American composer.
Hickey began playing electric guitar at the age of twelve and studied jazz guitar at Oakland University . This was followed by a study of music theory and composition at Wayne State University with James Hartway and James Lentini . In New York he continued his training with Leslie Bassett , Justin Dello Joio and Gloria Coates . He is composer in residence of the New York Metro Chamber Orchestra .
He was a semi-finalist in the 2001/02 Auros Composition Competition, received prizes from the New York Department of Cultural Affairs and the American Music Center, and eight ASCAP awards . He has received compositions from musicians such as cellist Dmitry Kouzov , pianist Xiayin Wang , clarinetist David Gould , violinist Ilya Gringolts , flutist Stefan Hoskuldsson , mandolinist Avi Avital and the ensembles Ars Futura and Pearls Before Swine .
