In 1962 he became a member of the St. Gallen City Council (since 2005 “City Parliament”) and secretary of the socialist planning community established by the Socialist Lake Constance International . After a few years in school he became the sole editor of the St. Gallen SP newspaper Volksstimme in 1967 . On April 1, 1968 he joined the editorial team of Tagwacht and was its editor-in-chief from October 1, 1968 until the end of 1969. 1970‒1972 he was Federal City Editor of the AZ-Ring, 1972‒1973 Federal Building Editor and Deputy Head of the Swiss Dispatch Agency (SDA) and 1973‒1976 Head of Press of the PTT General Directorate. From 1976 to 1979 he was editor-in-chief of Berner Nachrichten and, after the merger of Berner Tagblatt and Berner Nachrichten into Berner Zeitung in 1979, he was planning director / marketing director of the new newspaper for a short time. After a detour to Ringier, he took over the editor-in-chief of the Coop newspaper and ultimately became head of the Coop press in Basel.

1969-1970 he was a member of the SDA Board of Directors. In 1972 he was re-elected to succeed Ueli Götsch , but resigned after joining the SDA in autumn 1972.

From 1987 to 2002 he was press chief of the Reformed Churches in Bern-Jura-Solothurn , after which he was a freelance communications specialist. At the end of 2009 he stepped down from the program committee and the RGB board after falling out of the elevator of the Bern radio studio, which caused a broken upper arm, but also out of frustration that the audience council was not taken seriously enough, but remained until 2011 Delegate of SRG German-speaking Switzerland and member of the commission for media policy.
