Ulrich “Ueli” Götsch (born May 12, 1925 in Frauenfeld ; † November 5, 2017 in Rafz ; resident in Bürglen TG , Weinfelden and Zurich ) was a Swiss journalist and politician ( SP ). From 1963 to 1971 he was a member of the National Council . From 1971 he was head of the information department of Swiss television , in 1980 editor-in-chief of all information programs.

Life

Götsch was born as the son of the postman Robert Götsch. After primary school and cantonal school in Frauenfeld, he completed the metalworking school in Winterthur from 1943 to 1947 and did an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic in Zurich from 1948 to 1950 .

At the end of 1944 he founded the Socialist Youth Frauenfeld and later became a representative of the Socialist Youth on the cantonal party executive in Zurich. In 1946 he joined the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland (SP) and the SMUV trade union . From 1950 to 1954 he worked first in Vienna , then as a precision mechanic for medical devices in Belgrade and was at the same time a reporter for the people's law from Yugoslavia . From 1955 to 1961 he was first an employee, then secretary of the VHTL trade union in Zurich, and from 1962 to 1968 he was secretary of the SP of the canton of Zurich. From 1968 to 1971 he built the later failed AZ-Ring (Arbeiter-Zeitungs-Ring), a jacket newspaper with the newspapers Freier Aargauer , Thurgauer AZ , Abendzeitung AZ , Freie Innerschweiz , Das Volk , Volksstimme , Schaffhauser AZ , Oberländer AZ , Volksrecht and Winterthurer AZ , and directed it.

In 1971 Götsch, inexperienced as a television journalist, joined Swiss television (then SF DRS) as head of the information department (de facto chief editor) . His predecessor Willy Kaufmann had to vacate the post after he had participated in a controversial draft program of the socio-political commission of the CVP . In 1980 Götsch became head of the Information and Politics department and was thus editor-in-chief of all information programs, including the “ Tagesschau ”. A year later he was replaced and until 1983 took over the management of the domestic magazine «CH». From 1983 until 1988 he held various positions and retired early at the age of 63.

From 1970 to 1972 he was a member of the board of directors of the Swiss Dispatch Agency .

From 1959 to 1963 he was municipal councilor ( legislature ) for the SP in Zurich, from 1964 to 1968 cantonal councilor and from 1963 to 1971 national councilor; He had to forego this mandate when he was elected head of the information department of Swiss television. From 1962 to 1966 he was a member of the SP management team. In 1967, with his candidacy for the government council of the canton of Zurich, he was defeated by the liberal Albert Mossdorf , despite having achieved an absolute surplus than the surplus , and a political comeback failed in 1983.

From a bourgeois point of view, too, Götsch was “never a rigid doctrinaire. He has always distinguished himself through a cosmopolitan reform socialism (and thus earned himself the predicate "inconvenient" in his own ranks). "

Private

Götsch was married to the journalist Jelena Tomašević, who he had met in Belgrade , from 1954, and from 1962 to Irene Zimmermann, who died of leukemia in 1968 . He had three children with her.
