Peter Moss (born July 23, 1948 in London ) is a British musician , record producer , arranger and conductor .

Musical career

At the age of 6, Peter Moss began to play the ukulele , taking lessons in viola , guitar , double bass , piano , percussion and singing .

As a teenager he accompanied soul artists like James & Bobby Purify and "The Flirtations" around London as a musician and made demo studio recordings for Louvigny-Marquee Musik, who worked for Radio Luxemburg.

In the early 1970s he formed his own band called "The Rednik Smith Band". In the late 1970s he worked with Alan Parson's rhythm section as a bass player at Abbey Road Studios with Pete Wingfield (piano), Steve Ferrone (drums) and Tim Renwick (guitar), for artists such as Al Stewart , Dean Ford ( marmalade ) and Terry Sylvester ( Hollies ). Together with Ben Findon , he was arranger, assistant producer and musician for the hits of "Billy Ocean", " The Dooleys " and "The Nolans". For ten years he worked as musical director for Dana between 1976 and 1986.

From 1974 on he was often a musician in the orchestra of the original production " The Rocky Horror Show " in the London " Comedy Theater " and conducted the last show in 1981 at the London Theater. He was also the producer of the 1996 "Best of" CD for this globally successful performance.

From 1976 he worked closely with Vivian Stanshall, whom he accompanied on the Procol Harum tour. In his studio jingles and musical inserts were created for advertisers such as Toshiba , Lego , Esso , Cadburys and many others.

For the "Mike Mansfields Ladybirds" series (ITV Television UK & Worldwide) he musically produced and directed Eartha Kitt , Dana, Hazel O'Conner and Kiki Dee .

For BBC Television he directed Dusty Springfield's "Live at the Hippodrome" show (1985) and series for the BBC such as "Windmill", "Grange Hill", "A Question of Entertainment" and "Wake up Sunday" in the 1980s. (with Dana), "Stepping up", "The Freddie Star Show Case" and others.

From 1975 until the end of 2001, he worked on 51 episodes for the BBC on the world's longest running satirical radio show, The News Huddlines, which aired weekly, as musical director with Roy Hudd, June Whitfield and Chris Emmet .

In the 1990s he conducted many concerts in Europe with artists such as Peter Hofmann (German tenor), Deborah Sasson (American soprano), Anna-Maria Kaufmann (Canadian soprano), Manuela Felice (Swiss soprano), Precious Wilson (Jamaican soul singer), René Kollo (German tenor), Katrina and the Waves (American pop / rock), Faith Brown (English entertainer) and Erkan Aki (Turkish tenor).

He arranged and orchestrated the music for the musical "The Phantom of the Opera" in a version by Deborah Sasson and accompanied the Europe-wide tour as a conductor. “Musical Starlights” and “12 Tenors” are further show productions that he launched in collaboration with World Wide Events.

He served as musical director in July 2010 in the memorial show for Vivian Stanshall called "Stinkfoot" on board the Thekla floating theater in Bristol Harbor.

Friends and old companions gave him the idea of ​​founding a ukulele orchestra in 2009, which was expanded in 2010 to a larger group of eight professional ukulele players and comedians. The United Kingdom Ukulele Orchestra (TUKUO) tours year after year through Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland. In 2012 she took part in the Edinburgh Festival, the Hamburg Cabaret Festival and the Jazz Festival in Kaiserslautern.

With various artists, he was involved in the foundation of Peter Hofmann, who died of Parkinson's disease , in benefit galas with artists such as Vicky Leandros , Johnny Logan , Ireen Sheer and others. He is a member of various associations such as the Musicians Union, the Music Producers Guild, Songwriters Guild and others.

Moss arranged and produced well-known songs for Dusty Springfield , Vivian Stanshall, Roger Whittaker , Dana , Precious Wilson , Rondò Veneziano , Billy Ocean , Peter Straker and many others. For Vivian Stanshall (Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band) he was Stanshall's musical director until her death in 1995.

Private life

Peter Moss has a total of eight daughters from two marriages. He lives in London and in his studio near Neumünster in Germany.
